I installed three of them—two on brake cables and one on the rear derailleur cable of my trail bike. I expect these beauties will last a long while and even get used on several bikes over the years.
It’s kind of irrational how happy these small and simple do-dads make me
30,000 miles and still going strong. They’re the perfect little detail that never gives up.
Product Story
It all started with a Cherry. On a warm spring day in 2020, Dan was installing the Cables on a new cargo bike build before realizing he was fresh out of crimps! Going all the way to the local bike shop just for a crimp was a frustrating thought, and so was living with a frayed, crimpless cable end. The idea came all at once: a set screw for reusability, and a spherical shape that would compliment new and old components alike. Dan didn’t own any machine tools, so he made the first one with some undrilled aluminum spheres off the internet, wood blocks for holding them in a vice, and a cordless drill. It worked, but wasn’t pretty. He needed machines and was lucky enough to find a Bridgeport milling machine for sale a few miles down the road in an old airplane hanger. The mill was powered up, and Dan made about 30 pairs of Cherries for a wage of roughly $7 / hour. He gave them to several friends for their feedback, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
While not exactly a commercial success, getting the mill sparked a deep love for machining and design. With it, he was able to refine the design of the Cable Cherry to pack a large amount of grip (over 100 lbs. !) in a relatively small size. With greater confidence, Dan approached a small CNC manufacturer - and the rest can be found over on the About page!
